Del Webb, known for its “Sun City” retirement communities, has proposed a 6,000-acre, 4,000-home development for active seniors in Tehama County. The upscale subdivision attracts affluent seniors who enjoy the finer things in life. The locals in rural northern Tehama County want to keep their small town, cowboy heritage and open space. In this essay, I compare and contrast a “Sun City” in Lincoln with Cottonwood, the town near where Del Webb is proposing to build.
